Where do I get my costume and things?

This page is provided to give advice on the type of costume you should wear at a Lorien Trust Live Role Playing event. These are in no way rules, just advice on the kind of costume already worn and preferred.

This page also provides links to the Lorien Trust traders and resources, sites where you can purchase all manner of costume and weapons for live role playing or get advise on making your own.

Costume at Lorien Trust live role play events, and many other fantasy events, is based on a mix between 10th to 16th century historical European dress. The Lorien Trust game world is loosely based in these eras, so this kind of costume is quite fitting. Costume can be as plain as you like, ranging from a simple pair of black trousers and a linen shirt to an authentic court dress of the 16th century. We advise you use this as your guide when choosing. Costumes and also armour; If your going to look the part it's a good idea for your character to stay alive long enough to show it off.

Costume is an important aspect of attending a live role playing event and looking the part adds to the feel and enjoyment of the event for all concerned. Also, you'll more than likely want or feel you need a weapon and maybe some armour depending on what you have decided to play. The cost of this can range from the few pounds you spend to buy a leather coat in your local charity shop, to use as costume. Up to hundreds of pounds for specially made costume. The same can be said for weapons. A major part of your live role playing is the combat that occurs. Whether its defending yourself from it, hiding behind it or being in the middle of it, you're going to want a weapon of some sort. Weapons in live role playing vary. In the Lorien Trust system, weapons are mainly medieval in style. We do not have any form of gunpowder, so guns and bombs are not sensible options. When considering a weapon of choice the European and fantasy influence leads you to the classical sword and axe style weapons. You may need to consider this when creating your character. You can either borrow them from a friend who is already a player, or wait till you attend your first main event, were traders sell weapons from a basic one handed sword below £40.00. Some of the larger weapons can cost a good deal more as can bows and general archers equipment.

Things also to consider are stereo types there is several stereo types that do exist you may wish to avoid such as, Scouts and assassins do not always have to wear black and Mages don't always where robes. You can dress your character as you like. Remember you need to be comfortable you'll be wearing your costume a lot and generally people come to recognise your character by your costume.

The links on this page provide a good selection of traders who can sell you anything, from complete outfits to that sought-after ring for the finishing touch.
