Various shouted 'calls' are used at Lorien Trust events, both in and
out of character. Out of character calls are safety-related and are
only for use in emergency situations. In character calls are used to
tell you which special effect or ability your character has been affected
by. Damage calls are most often used in combat, to specify the effects
delivered by a weapon blow, although some damage calls may be used at
other times. Special calls are used to identify effects used throughout
the game.
Safety Calls.
Safety calls are all out of character. Some safety calls may be used
by anyone, but players found to be using safety calls for in character
reasons, or in unnecessary situations, risk being asked to leave site
and being banned from all Lorien Trust events for a period of no less
than one year. Anyone hearing a safety call should stop moving immediately
and remain where they are until given further instructions, or until
in character actions are restarted using the time in call below. please
listen for instructions from referees or staff while you are waiting
and, if asked to do anyting, obey as quickly and safely as possible.
Although we all want to try an help in an emergency, please
do not try to approach an incident, after hearing an out of character
call, unless you are fully aware of the nature of the incident and are
certain that you have skills which may be needed (for example, fully qualified
doctors, nurses or firefighters).
Man Down: This call is to be used when anyone suffers a
real, out of character, injury of any type. Put one arm in the air while
shouting this to make yourself obvious. If you hear this call, stop fighting
immediately and move clear of the injured person.
Clear:
Only Lorien Trust staff may use this call. Clear is used in situations
where large numbers of people need to move away from an area quickly (for
example if a fire breaks out). If you hear this call, you should look
for the nearest member of Lorien Trust staff or referee and follow their
directions. If you cannot see a member of staff or referee, move away
from the area in which the call was made as quickly and safely as possible
(do not run). You should move at least fifty feet from the where this
call was used and should ideally leave the area entirely.
Fire:
You should use this call if you see a fire anywhere other than in a raised,
contained firepit. If you discover a fire, alert anyone nearby (for example
in adjacent tents) using this call. Find a referee or member of Lorien
Trust staff who has a radio as quickly as possible and tell them where
you found the fire. Please remain and help if asked, otherwise please
leave the area as quickly and safely as possible once you have reported
the fire.
